Ranking all Spicy Nongshim Shin Ramyun Noodles

Ranking all Spicy Nongshim Shin Ramyun Noodles

Read Time:2 Minute, 45 Second

It’s been a while since I’ve done a ranking list on spicy noodles, last time was Samyang’s Buldak Bokkeum Myeon This time it’s for Nongshim’s (신라면) variety of spicy noodles. As of June 2025, I’ve been able to try 7 flavours that range in spice. Are they as spicy as Buldak Bokkeumyeon? Let’s find out.

오리지널 (Original)

The most commonly found flavour that you can get is the Original. Honestly, the spice mix is practically non-existent and does not bring much flavouring to the noodles. I found myself having to add gochujang, maras biber and chilli oil to spice it up more. Alternatively, it is good to add to dishes like ddukbokki with more gochujang.

너구리 (Neoguri)

Neoguri is a classic and used to be my one of my favourites before a few further down this list knocked it off. In terms of spice, you do have to add stuff in it to give it a bit more of a kick but it’s still better than the Original. 너구리 is also great to add to additional dishes like dakgalbi as the seasoning pack and noodles add a spicy punch to it.

블랙 (Black)

Black is quite similar to Neoguri, in terms of seasoning pack and what it can be added to. But it’s noticeable that Black has a little less spice to Neoguri and would be a safe choice for those who want a bit more than just Original.

스파이시 치킨 (Spicy Chicken)

Spicy Chicken is such a comforting ramyeon to eat and has a little more flavour in it. On its own or in other dishes, it’s become a favourite purely for the tenderness of the noodles and how good it tastes in a dish. The spice packet can’t be ignored as the aromatic flavours brings something good to the ramyeon.

툼바 (Toomba)

For those who love Buldak Bokkeumyeon Carbonara Style, this one is for you. Toomba is the creamy option that took me by surprise. The subtle spice mixed with the rich flavour is a nice touch to it as it’s not as strong as the Buldak Bokkeumyeon brand but I’ll have it once in a while as I’m not a big fan of creamy ramyeon.

레드 슈퍼 스파이시 (Red Super Spicy)

In four words, it’s sichuan in a pack. This is the spiciest one I’ve had and it does live up to its expectation but it’s not incredibly spicy to the point you can’t enjoy it. I prefer Red Super Spicy with broth, rather than without as there’s a lingering spicy flavour there and it’s enjoyable with a lot of vegetables like pakchoi, beansprouts, spring onion and bamboo shoots.

볶음면 (Bokkeumyeon)

Aesthetically it’s a very cute ramyeon with its circular maki with shin on it. Just like The Ramen Rater, I’d even say that it would be good for meat dishes especially beef and like Red Super Spicy, would be nice brothless to enjoy the spicy flavour more. It’s definitely a flavour that would grow and become a second favourite of mine.

On average, the 7 different flavours can be averaged out to a rank 5, Vindaloo, with Spicy Chicken, Red Super Spicy and Bokkeumyeon. Have you tried any of these? Which one is your favourite?
