Sichuan Restaurant in Greenwich (川妹子)

Sichuan is a powerful spice that has become one of my favourites. The lace is actually quite well-known in South East London as it’s a restaurant and karaoke bar in North Greenwich’s Leisure Park. Because of the restaurant name, I was intrigued to see if the restaurant’s dishes live up to the title. And it really did. While there is other dishes such as Noodle Sichuan style and Special fried rice, these four other dishes are highly recommended for you to try:

  • Sichuan Special Pot (Glass noodles with potatoes and beef pieces)
  • Pork slices and vegetable boiled with Sichuan style oil
  • Beef Throat with Green Chilli and Sichuan Spices
  • Shredded Ox Tripe in Chilli Oil

There’s a range of dishes that were chosen amid a wider variety on the menu. The chefs at Sichuan restaurants should be applauded more as compared to other restaurants that specialise in Sichuan dishes, Sichuan Greenwich has an estimated 40% of the menu with spicy dishes.

All of the dishes are certified delicious on my own spice ranking as Sichuan and above which is quite impressive.

Beef Throat with Green Chilli and Sichuan Spices

Everyone who is used to Sichuan knows that it can numb your tongue and I was glad to get the sensation and not too much especially since there was only one peppercorn dish that we had with numerous others.

Shredded Ox Tripe in Chilli Oil

My favourites were the Pork slices and vegetables boiled with Sichuan style oil with the Sichuan Special Pot as a close second. The pork slices and vegetables are tender and the Sichuan peppercorn are a nice touch in the dish. What I love about peppercorns is the more you eat, the more the spice creeps up on you and grabs you by the tongue.

The Special pot needs to be asked for as my friend ordered it and we never got the official name. Just know the pot has pieces of beef, potatoes and underneath there are glass noodles and Sichuan peppers are scattered throughout.

I would love to go back to try the following next time:

  • Stir fried Sichuan MaPo Tofu with minced pork
  • Spicy Sichuan tiger prawn hot pot
  • DanDan Sichuan Noodles
  • Stewed rabbit in a marinade of chilli oil and Sichuan peppercorns
  • Sizzling squid in special Sichuan marinade
