I know! I’m obsessed with Naga but a few months back, my friend wanted to go out to a restaurant in Whitechapel. Red Chilli’s (also known as Red Chilli’s Curry Club) is an Indian restaurant in between Whitechapel and Tower Hill that has a decent range of speciality dishes.
Since I had my first naga curry especially from these restaurants, I’ve been going to Indian restaurants to try various Naga curries. At Red Chilli in Whitechapel, it was no different. My friend’s partner had the Naga Chicken while I had the Naga Lamb Balti with some Garlic Chilli Cheese Naan on the side (highly recommended but there’s no chilli or a spicy flavour with this naan).
There was a noticeable difference in spice between both the chicken and lamb, with the lamb having a tantalizing feeling that lingered on the tongue and settled in your belly. But I’m not complaining as compared to the chicken which was more reasonably spiced, this one was a lot more for the adventurous lot (aka me) and it was visibly more red while the chicken was more of an orangey-yellow colour.
It didn’t stop me from trying to eat as much as I could and suffering a belly ache. But alas, even now I’d go all the way back to Whitechapel just to get it and the naan again as it was one of the best naga curries I’ve had and well worth the burn in my belly.
