Something that a lot of people keep asking is if Jamaica’s KFC is the best in the world and if it lives up to its spiciness. Before I went back to Jamaica for the summer of 2022, I could only taste it through the words of friends and family as I hadn’t eaten it in 12 years.
But in Brownstown, I finally had the chance to give others more than just “it’s good from what I remember.” The Jamaica menu had only three spicy options on the menu – the BBQ Zinger, Hot ‘n’ Spicy Zinger with cheese and their Hot ‘n’ Spicy wings, the latter two are the ones that I ordered.
The spice in the chicken for both the zinger and wings were coated very nicely within the breadcrumbs. There’s a nice crunch and a fiery flavouring to it. It’s not a burning sensation that spicy food enthusiasts would love but it’s definitely more than a kick that lingers a little more than usual.
The Zinger burger was definitely my favourite. With the combo of cheese and mayonnaise sauce, the burger was very well-seasoned. It also seemed like the burger was filled with a lot of meat so I was definitely full once I finished eating.
What I liked the most about KFC in Jamaica was that there’s familiarity within the menu but more spice to the food especially for these two items within the menu.
So, does the food live up to its peppery reputation? Yes, but it’s not something that’s overly spicy as everyone wants something that’s burning hot, but more perfectly seasoned. There’s not as many KFC’s as Juici Patties but with the Hot ‘n’ Spicy burger and wings, KFC Jamaica does live up to the hope and praise that it has with its spice, if only that its more peppery than its UK counterpart.
