Last year, I was so happy to go back to Jamaica after 12 years. To go back to my family’s home country and see what the country had become in my adult years. Of course, one thing I wanted to go back for was the food. Jamaica is one of the top countries in the world with the spiciest food and it’s well-loved. One in particular that gets overlooked behind curry goat and jerk chicken is the patties.
Juici Patties is Jamaica’s most famous patty chain, both inside and outside of the island and I was so happy to have been able to go in Ocho Rios and at a petrol station on the way to Lucea. The chain is known for having a range including beef, chicken, vegetable, shrimp and also soy for vegetarians which can be viewed in the menu here.
As stereotypical as it is, most of the flavours were sold out except beef or chicken. I went with beef both times and from the first bite, it’s clear why Juici Patties is the most influential and tastiest patties ever.
The flakiness and crunch is what makes a patty a true patty and the spice in the beef patty (which is no more than a kick) was a nice addition when you continue to eat. The more I ate a patty from Juici Patties, the more I couldn’t believe how much better it tasted than what I remembered as a teenager. And the great thing about it was it was filling and put me in a good spirit. So there’s no doubt that if you try a patty from Juici Patties that you will fall in love and continue to crave for more!
