Vindaloo from Jayanta

Vindaloo from Jayanta

Read Time:1 Minute, 7 Second

I’d been trying to find Cypriot food with a bit more seasoning and (hopefully) spice to it while in Cyprus. I quickly discovered there wasn’t much in Paphos so I had to look for alternative from other culture’s cuisines.

Jayanta, the Indian restaurant within the Kato Paphos area was a great option. Not only was it around my hotel’s area, but it had a great range of dishes to eat like biryani’s and tandoori main dishes.

In particular, I chose their Vindaloo as it was the only curry that has the ‘very hot’ option and is warned to be very dangerous with a four chilli rating to it. And being me, I chose it regardless of the warnings. And I’m glad I did it because the combo of the spice, potatoes, tomato and vinegar and lamb was delicious!

Having only favoured many curries such as Tikka Masala and Naga, the Vindaloo curry was not overpowering with the soft and chewy texture of the ingredients altogether. I expected the dish to be watered down as there was only one chilli pepper amongst the chunks of meat and it was likely that the waiter told the chef not to kill me.

Nevertheless, it was very tasty and definitely needs to be paired with their Garlic Naan and Pilau Rice if you’re ever in Kato Paphos.
