Best pizza chains for peppery food

Read Time:3 Minute, 10 Second

We have to talk about infamous chains and how many have the ingredients to make a spicy pizza. As we all know, due to the pandemic and Brexit, most pizza chains have a reduced number of toppings with some pizzerias have taken off infamous pizzas such as Papa Johns’ Tandoori Spice. So which pizza chain has the best toppings? Which one can give you more than just a peppery kick? Instead of going through the pizzas in the menu that consistently change during seasons, I’ll be going through five pizzerias to find out which has the best toppings for you to add to your pizza.

Pizza Hut

This classic chain has nostalgia tied to it but not because of the peppery topping sadly. While Pizza Hut is a global chain, it’s not the best for spicy food connoisseurs in the UK having to cater to the local demographic. Unfortunately, I’ve never had a very spicy pizza from Pizza Hut and the only toppings to put some chilli on my pizza is the jalapeño topping which does very little to my taste buds.

Firezza

I never encountered Firezza before it became more prominent but unsurprisingly for a lesser known chain, it has a range of pizzas and extra toppings for its customers. Along with a fiery tomato base to start with, there’s also the choice of cajun-spiced chicken, ‘nduja salami, fresh red chilli and sicillian sausage to add as ingredients to the pizza which might have spicy foodies sniff from the spice but nothing too fiery. What stands out about Firezza’s pizzas is that they do have a diverse category of pizzas to choose from for a bit of a peppery experience such as Salsiccia, Pollo Piccante, Gorgonzola, Spinaci, Diavola and Piccante. It’s probably one of the better choices to get a pizza from!

Papa Johns

This is another worldwide chain that many love. Compared to Pizza Hut, they’ve had staple pizzas such as The Mexican and American Hottest that have been favourites for years. They used to have a Tandoori sizzler but because of the pandemic and Brexit, there is limited ingredients. But the only ingredients being red chilli peppers, spicy beef and jalapeño peppers can be selected for making a pizza. Maybe in the near future, Tandoori Spice can come back and raise Papa John’s status in terms of spiciness.

Domino’s

Domino’s is a lot of people’s #1 choice for takeaway pizza but for a spicy food connoisseur? It’s a little lacking despite it’s great taste. The only options to add to a pizza are jalapeño peppers, tandoori chicken and chorizo sausage but they do bring a little flavour depending on the combination. Among pizzas in Domino’s, the pizzas you can choose are American Hot, Hot & Spicy, The Sizzler and Veg Volcano. Hot & Spicy is probably the closest you’ll get to a chilli flavouring among this chain’s pizzas.

Pizza Express

A contender that is always overlooked for others like Dominos or Papa John’s, Pizza Express is not to be messed with. They have pizzas like Diavolo, Sloppy Giuseppe, American Hot and the Polla Forza that are well seasoned and a bit more peppery than expected. There are less ingredients than Domino’s or Firezza but Pizza Express manages to make things work with options such as hot and sweet chilli peppers, ‘nduja sausage, spiced beef mix and jalapeño peppers.

That would leave Pizza Express and Firezza being your best choices. It does seem that overall these pizza chains try to implement a mild taste for the population. It’s a shame that the UK’s usual tolerance to spice is so weak, if people had the same tolerance similar to countries like Thailand and Jamaica then food would be a lot more seasoned and flavoursome for spicy food enthusiasts.
